How is the APUSH Exam Scored?

The AP US History exam is divided into two major sections containing four parts. Our calculator uses the following official breakdown:

  • Section I, Part A (MCQ): 55 Multiple Choice Questions. Accounts for 40% of your total score.
  • Section I, Part B (SAQ): 3 Short Answer Questions. Accounts for 20% of your total score.

What do the AP Scores Mean?

  • 5 - Extremely Qualified: Equivalent to an A+ or A in a college course.
  • 4 - Well Qualified: Equivalent to a B+, B, or B-.
  • 3 - Qualified: Equivalent to a C+, C, or C-.
  • 2 or 1 - No Recommendation: Typically does not qualify for college credit.
